Sunday’s Recap – A review of this past week’s posts from The Conservative Nation
Sunday seems to be a good day to review some of the news events of the past week, some that I have written about and some that I haven’t. If you would like to receive this weekly review via email, send me a note to bill@theconservativenation.com. This week’s review includes:
The Depressing State Of Our Nation
As I was trying to decide what to write about for today’s post, I couldn’t help but become somewhat depressed about the state of our once great nation. We used to be the leaders of the world, now we are rapidly sinking to position of a “has been”, and even a laughing stock in some circles.
America Is A Muslim Nation?
While speaking in Turkey back in April, President Obama said that we are not a Christian nation. Today in an interview with a French television network, he said, “One of the points I want to make is, is that if you actually took the number of Muslims Americans, we’d be one of the largest Muslim countries in the world.”
Brian Williams bows and says goodnight to President Obama
Adding credence to what have been “tongue in cheek” references to the state run media outlet, NBC, host Brian Williams bows to Obama as he says goodnight to him.
Obamanomics Not Working
Obamanomics has failed to stimulate the U.S. Economy. While household personal income did rise in April, it was not spent, but rather went into savings accounts or to pay down consumers’ debt. Mr. Obama is counting on consumer spending to stimulate our economy, but the spending rate fell in spite of the rise in income.
Dick Cheney Is More Popular Than Nancy Pelosi
Back in January, as the Bush Administration was coming to a close and the Obama Administration was beginning, Vice President Dick Cheney was having a popularity problem. Only 30% of Americans had a favorable opinion of him. At the same time, Nancy Pelosi was viewed favorably by 40% of the country. Fast forward to June and see how things have changed.
Merkel Not Impressed With Obama
Perhaps only second to Bill Clinton, Barack Obama is one of the slickest presidents we’ve ever had. Let’s face it, he is good when it comes to talking, and would probably make a great car salesman. (Hmm, a new career in about four years? Could be why he wanted to take over GM, but I digress.) However, his charm and charisma do not seem to working on my hero, German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
Obama Knew What He Was Getting With Sotomayor
David Limbaugh has written a very interesting article raising the point that Mr. Obama was not surprised by Ms. Sotomayor’s 2001 statement:
“I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn’t lived that life.”
President Obama’s New Push To Shove Socialized Medicine Down Our Throat
President Obama is now focusing on Socialized medicine and is calling for supporters to begin a grassroots effort to push congress into passing a bill implementing what he refers to as healthcare reform. He has gone as far as organizing gatherings across the country for people to discuss health care. Mr. Obama had this to say in his Saturday address:
If we do nothing, everyone’s health care will be put in jeopardy. Fixing what’s wrong with our health care system is no longer a luxury we hope to achieve – it’s a necessity we cannot postpone any longer.
If fixing what is wrong with healthcare was the objective, the administration would be using terms like “tweaking” or “adjusting” instead of overhaul and reform. Healthcare reform is nothing more that one more attempt to implement more government control over what many believe to be the best healthcare system in the world, and one more attempt to control more of lives. And, the questions, “How will we pay for it?”, and “Where will all of the money come from?” still have to be answered.
That’s it for this week’s review. I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you for taking the time to read my blog, and to encourage you to talk back to me by leaving a comment or two. Also, if you like to write an article, let me know. Remember, if you would like to receive this weekly review via email, send a note to bill@theconservativenation.com.
