Pelosi Refuses To Answer Questions On Dispute With CIA

In an earlier post, I wrote about Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi accusing the CIA of lying when they said she was informed in the fall of 2002 that Enhanced Interrogation Techniques (EIT, and PC code name for waterboarding). Friday, she and fellow democrats were providing details on their plans for addressing global warming, when she was asked about her claim. Mrs. Pelosi would not comment beyond saying:

I have made the statement that I’m going to make on this. What we are doing is staying on our course and not getting distracted from it. I won’t have anything more to say about it. Another subject?

However, the Republicans are not letting her off that easily. House Minority Leader John Boehner says that the speaker is “stonewalling”. “She has had more than a week to produce evidence supporting her allegation that the CIA deliberately lied to Congress and does so ‘all the time.’ She still has not done so, and House Democrats are now stonewalling a bipartisan investigation to determine the facts,” Mr. Boehner said.

Other Republicans in leadership positions think she is becoming more of a liability for her party rather than a leader. I for think she remembered those famous last words that many have heard in their last moment of freedom, “You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you. . . .” No, I’m not accusing the speaker of doing anything illegal. However, once one starts down the path of lying it is difficult to stop, even under oath.
