Obama is less popular than Nixon and Carter
While the mainstream media dances in the street and joyously proclaims that we are being governed by the most popular president in the history of America, the exact opposite is closer to the truth. You are being dished up serving after serving of how high this president’s popularity ratings are, but that is simply not the truth. The truth is that this president’s popularity ratings are only one point higher than those of the least popular president, Bill Clinton, since ratings began 40 years ago. At the 100 day mark, President Clinton’s approval ratings were at 55% and President Obama’s are at 56%. In contrast, President Reagan, the most popular president had approval ratings of 67%, George H. W. Bush’s ratings were at 58%, George W’s ratings were at 62%, and even Presidents Carter and Nixon enjoyed higher approval ratings. Carters ratings were 63% and Nixon’s were 61% at this milestone point in their presidencies.
As a side note, this is just one more example of why the mainstream media, or “drive-bys” as Rush Limbaugh refers to them, can not be trusted to tell the whole truth in an unbiased manner. When the founding fathers wrote “freedom of the press” into the constitution, I’m sure that their intention was not for the press to be free to be biased. I almost wish that someone would misinterpret freedom of the press to mean freedom from the press, much the way freedom of religion has been misinterpreted.
Why are the president’s approval ratings so low? Let’s consider the persona he portrayed during the campaign. He promised to cut government spending and reduce the size of the deficit. He blamed the economic crisis on excessive deficits. At no time during the campaign did candidate Barack Obama say that more deficit-spending was the solution to all of our economic woes. He ran as a moderate but is governing from the left. However, his friends and fans in the mainstream press will never report that. In other words, President Obama is the second least popular president because he is more partisan and divisive than his predecessors – including Richard Nixon.
