Tracking Microchips for Terrorists Released From Gitmo
There has been much said about President Obama’s plan to close Gitmo, with many questioning what to do with the terrorists that are being held there. There have been reports that other countries have stepped up and offered to take them, there have also been reports that some will be released into the U.S. and given government assistance. I have a different suggestion. Return them to Iraq or even better to the “no man’s land” on the Afghanistan/Pakistan border where Osama Bin Laden is believed to be hiding.
We currently have the technology to implant an electronic tracking microchip into our pets, to help locate them if/when they become lost. This microchip has served to reunite pets with their owners, bringing a happy ending to what would otherwise have been a sad event. The technology is not very expensive and is easy to implant. I believe it cost approximately $70 to have one put in my dog, when I checked into it.
The microchips used in pets are passive RFID devices which contain no internal power source, and are designed so that they do not act until activated. The components are encased in biocompatible glass and are hermetically sealed to prevent any moisture or fluid from entering. Pets are not affected by the presence of the microchip.
I’ve said all of this to present an idea. Why not implant a similar, but active tracking microchip into the terrorists before they are released. Most people believe that they will return to their leaders in order to re-engage in terrorist activities. If they are released into the area of Pakistan where Bin Laden is believed to be hiding, they might very well lead our troops to him and he can be captured or even killed. At the very least, we would be able to track them, know where they are and perhaps prevent additional acts of violence against our troops.
I realize this will never happen. The liberals in Congress and throughout the world will never allow something this radical. They have even objected to listening in on suspected terrorists’ cell phone calls, but it does present an interesting possibility and would provide a new weapon in our ongoing war against terror.
